At the undergraduate level, the Department offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees, as well as a minor. The B.A. curriculum provides a general geological education with flexibility allowing you to explore a broad spectrum of the other liberal arts. The B.S. curriculum, which requires physics, chemistry, and mathematics, in addition to earth science, is a rigorous, pre-professional program to prepare the student for graduate study. Careers in the Earth Sciences (which generally require graduate study) are found chiefly in industry, government, private consulting, and academia. For more information, look at the Undergraduate Program.
At the graduate level, we offer programs leading to the Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Science (M.S.), as well as a doctoral program (Ph.D.). If you are interested in applying for graduate school in Earth Sciences, please visit the Graduate School website, and contact individual faculty in our department whose interest coincide with your own.
