BIOGRAPHY and RESEARCH INTERESTS:

I am interesting in provenance studies, particularly sourcing detrital heavy minerals back to their host rock.  I am working in the Geochronology group under the guidance of Scott Samson.  My research is focused on the southern Appalachians, mainly the Asheville, North Carolina region and extending north into the Smokie Mountains.  I am currently isolating detrital monazite and zircon from modern alluvium to determine the strengths and limitations of these crystals as provenance indicators.  For zircon, we are determining the crystallization ages of both the cores as well as thin secondary growth rims (if present).  We are also investigating monazite, for which we are determining crystallization ages, bulk chemical composition, and Neodymium isotopic signatures.  These analyses are all performed each individual single crystal.

OTHER INTERESTS:

My interests are hiking (particularly in the Adirondacks), watching old movies, and visiting NYC.  I also enjoy collecting WWII firearms as well as testing my marksmanship by going to the firing range.
