Research Interests

I am studying the upper 400 feet of bedrock from Marcellus, NY to State College, PA. These units are important in relation to the quality of personal drinking water wells in these areas. I am analyzing the total metal concentrations in these rocks along with the natural capacity for sodium and calcium ions to exchange for one another.  The ion exchange capacity is an interesting part of the project because water softeners used in personal water wells cause this exchange of ions to happen but it is seen to occur naturally on occasion and we would like to characterize how exactly this is happening.
